Angola approves revised Gaming Law to boost economic growth
On October 28, 2024, Angola’s National Assembly approved Law No. 17/24, also known as the Gaming Activity Law. This new legislation is now in effect and will be regulated by the Instituto de Supervisão de Jogos (ISJ), the country's gaming regulatory body.
The new law replaces the previous Gaming Activity Law, Law No. 5/16, which had been in effect since May 17, 2016. The old law provided a foundational regulatory framework for gaming activities in Angola but has since become outdated as the industry has evolved.
The updated legislation is designed to improve the regulatory framework for the gaming industry in Angola. Key objectives include enhancing control over gaming operations, protecting the interests of bettors, promoting responsible gaming practices, and strengthening anti-money laundering measures.
Additionally, the new law introduces a revised fiscal system that aligns with international standards. This system aims to balance the interests of the government, players, bettors, and investors within the industry, ensuring a fair and efficient tax regime.
The enactment of this new law marks a significant step in modernizing Angola's gaming regulations and creating a more robust and regulated gaming environment.
