A bill to penalise match-fixing has been presented in Peru. The author of the document is congress deputy Susel Paredes.
According to the content of the draft law, criminal liability will be introduced for manipulation of sports results. A corresponding addition should be made to the Criminal Code.
Organisers of match-fixing, as well as their participants will face imprisonment from 3 to 10 years. If the organisers of match-fixing are athletes and heads of sports organisations, this will be considered an aggravating circumstance, and the minimum term of imprisonment will be 4 years.
Currently, manipulation of sports results in Peru is only considered an administrative offence.
