A ban on gambling advertising has been proposed in India
In India, a ban on gambling advertising has been proposed. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has come up with a corresponding initiative.
The document lists five areas of advertising activity, for which a ban should be introduced. These include print media, television channels, online news outlets, online advertising campaigns and social media platforms.
According to Kshitij Aggarwal, the ministry's deputy director for digital media, the recommendation makes it clear that betting and gambling are illegal activities and hence advertising and promoting such activities on any of the media platforms violates the existing laws.
It should be noted that the ministry has already published several similar documents of a recommendatory nature over the past year.
