60 million Nigerians participate in gambling daily
Nigerian Tribune reports that approximately 60 million Nigerians engage in gambling daily, according to Michael Eja, the Director General of the Cross River State Lottery and Gaming Agency. Speaking at the launch of a new sports betting platform, Woskybet, in Abuja, Eja highlighted the gambling industry's rapid growth, currently valued between N500 billion and N600 billion. He noted that despite this expansion, 90% of the potential market remains untapped.
Eja stated, “The betting industry is worth about $1 billion in Africa,” pointing out that Lagos State alone generated $243 million in revenue last year. He emphasized the industry's benefits, including wealth redistribution, job creation, and government revenue.
Nurudeen Idrees, Interim Director of Operations for Woskybet, echoed these sentiments, discussing the positive impact on youth employment and assuring customers that their winnings are secure.
Idrees emphasized Woskybet’s commitment to providing a safe and exciting betting experience for Nigerian sports enthusiasts.
